“We feel the best choice for mayor would be Marie Gilmore. Gilmore’s position on Alameda Point has been to move on from the SunCal fiasco and come up with a plan. She has said she would like the city to lead in developing a plan that includes recreational and commercial projects as well as housing that would not require amending Measure A. She has offered a reasoned response to the situation and seems to work with most members of Alameda’s contentious City Council. Her stand to help our schools is a positive effort that resonates with voters, parents and homeowners who worry about the impact of fiscal constraints on local schools.”

“Treat, Not Trick!”

October 23, 2010

Friends:

This summer the Alameda City Council overwhelmingly agreed that our experiment with SunCal as the developer for Alameda Point is over.

I believe it is time to move on, take control of Alameda Point and develop a project consistent with priorities clearly expressed by Alameda voters.

SunCal will not be invited back and relations with the company have been irreparably harmed by the lawsuits it has filed and the false, misleading and malicious mailer it sent out attacking Interim City Manager Ann Marie Gallant.

That is why my campaign for Mayor is focused on kids and schools. As Mayor, I will rally our community to help schools stay open and keep class sizes small during this critical time. Here in Alameda, we can not allow this generation of school children to miss out on the opportunities we enjoyed because of incompetence in Sacramento.

In the spirit of Halloween, some are trying to trick and scare you into believing there is a secret “SunCal slate” on the ballot in Alameda this November. This only imitates SunCal’s tactics and detracts us from our challenges, such as helping our schools.

I do know that for Alameda, there is a bright future ahead for us and our children if we work together. There are no conspiracies or boogeymen to be afraid of–just some good old fashioned hard work. And that work, I believe, must start with our schools.

If you share these feelings, I sincerely hope you will vote for me for Mayor. However you cast your vote, do it with optimism and pride in our community, and reject the fear tactics that only serve to distract us from our mission.

Best,
Marie
